Cartmel Horse Holidays

What is a Cartmel Horse Holiday?

Our motto at Bramble Byre is If the horses are happy - so are you!"

Cartmel Valley bridle path

Bramble Byre’s horse bed and breakfast is unique to the Cartmel area.  Situated in the South Lakes peninsula less than 30 minutes from the M6 (an easy drive for a horse box or towing a trailer), the location will attract horse owners who are looking to ride in an area where numerous bridle paths zig zag quiet country lanes and fells.
Bramble Byre is a mile and a half from Cartmel village, reached by a lane which winds up the hill passing a stream and pond, taking you to a haven of peace and quiet.

On arrival – the horses can perhaps go for a short ‘settle down’ hack, or be turned out in individual paddocks.  Hay, haylage and feed can either be brought by the owners or organised prior to arrival.

The owners have a choice of either double or twin bedrooms.  Bed linen and towels are supplied.

The day starts with a full Cumbrian breakfast which is served in the farmhouse kitchen – or maybe a lighter option of fruit juice, cereal and fresh bread.  During breakfast, the ride for the day is decided, circular rides as short as 30 minutes or up to 3 – 4 hours or more are possible.  A guide can be arranged to show riders the trails or there are print outs available of various rides.

After an invigorating day in the saddle – afternoon tea is available in the large farmhouse kitchen or in the garden (on sunny days!).  Later, evening meals can be taken in Cartmel village.  There are 4 friendly pubs to choose from, the Cartmel Sticky Toffee pudding is usually on the menu.  Or there's a couple of restaurants – one being L'enclume, Simon Rogan's Michelin starred restaurant - a treat for a special occasion.   As a treat - you could take a carriage ride around the Cartmel Valley - see our links page - www.blackhorses.co.uk.

A wander around the historic village of Cartmel is a must when staying at Bramble Byre, it's easy to spend an afternoon exploring.  From Cartmel Priory –which dates back to the 12th century, to the famous Cartmel Sticky Toffee Pudding Shop, there's something to appeal to everyone.
